Class Editing Activity

1.  Set-Up Divide the class into groups placing 4 or 5 students in each group depending on class size.  Assign each child a number, 1-4.  (Each group will have a student who is number 1, number 2, and so forth.)

2.  Whole Class Activity Show the appropriate Miss Take presentation using this procedure:

  • Slide 1 - Title slide

  • Slide 2 - Monday sentences

  • "Heads Together" - each group puts heads together to discuss errors on the slide.

  • "Heads Up" - groups stop discussion

  • Ask a number to stand up (Number 2 stand up, each group's number 2 student stands)

  • Call on one group's number 2 to come to the TV monitor and mark with a dry erase marker the errors in the sentences.  Encourage use of editing marks.  The group earns a point for each error, but must mark all errors to earn the points.  If the group member misses an error(s) another group gets a turn.

  • Continue the process until all slides are edited.

4.  Follow Up - Individual Practice Distribute the coordinating handout to students to correct independently.
