Making Your Views Known: Writing a Letter to Congress
In this lesson, students read sample letters to Congress, choose an issue of concern in the nation, and write their own letter to a Congressperson.  Students use Congress Link to locate their congressman and address.

Before Parent-Teacher conferences, have students write a letter to their parent(s) about what they learned, enjoyed, etc. so far this school year. Ask them to write about behavior and areas of improvement.

Advice Letters
Write a friendly letter of three to five paragraphs to next year’s students, advising them regarding staff, classes, homework, hall and class behavior; lockers, etc. (all students must sign name to letter and all "information" must be ok'd by teacher mentioned so everything is funny and good-natured).

Life on a Soddy
Students learn about life in the Midwest living in a soddy house.   Students then write a letter to a friend back in Pennsylvania from the Midwest after settling there explaining what daily life is like, as well as what it was like building and living in a sod house.
