My Favorite American Hero

My favorite American hero is a friend of my family. He is Artillery Specialist Michael Franklin Lee of the U.S. Army. I think he is a hero because he is brave and is willing to fight for our country.

He was born on March 19,1982and was raised in New Market, TN. After graduation, he joined the. Army. His basic training was in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. While there, he learned how to shoot a M-16 rifle and a grenade launcher. He was placed on the Honor Guard to go to Veteran’s funerals. Currently he is stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas but is on special training in the California desert.

Mike has learned many things while in the Army such As using

weapons and how to survive in the desert. He will probably get to put these things to use in the Persian Gulf if unit is sent to Iraq. The thing he has liked most about his training is drive a Humvee.

He is one of the many who are willing to fight and risk their lives for our country. Risking his life is a big thing, well, at least to me. That is what makes Artillery Specialist Michael Franklin Lee a hero in my eyes.

My Favorite American Hero

My favorite American hero is John Muir. His hard work convinced Congress to establish   the Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. He traveled the world and worked very hard to save nature but keep it public. Because of his work he is called, ”The Father of our National Park System.”

My favorite American hero is Sally Ride. The reason why she’s special is because she was the first woman astronaut.  She was born in 1951 in LosAngeles, Calfornia. She liked to play tennis but chose not to follow this as a career even though she received national ranking.  In 1978  she  was  selected as an astronaut candidate to  NASA  and  became a mission  specialist  on  space    shuttle flight  crews.  In 1983 she was on the Challenger and other missions.   She is very terrific!

My favorite American Hero is Susan B. Anthony. I think she is great because she stood up for the women’s right vote. I also think it is important for women to vote.

She was born in Feb. 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts. She died March 13, 1906. She was 86 years old when she died. She was brought up in the Quaker family. After teaching for fifteen years, she became active in temperance. Also, she was an editor for a magazine called “The Revolution.”

She got the women the right to vote. She also met Elizabeth Cady Stanton in1851. They became close friends and associates.

In 1872 she was arrested for voting.

Susan B. Anthony is so important to me because she stood up for her rights. She even got arrested in 1872 for voting. Finally, after years of hard work she reached her goal. She got women the right to vote.

I think Davy Crocket is a hero because he was a warrior, backwoods states man, and the spirit of the American Frontier. Davy was born the son of John and Rebecca Crocket, on Aug. 17, 1786 in a cabin on the banks of the Nolichucky River, near limestone TN. His family moved to Green County and they later moved to Jefferson County where they built and operated a mill and they later built and operated a log cabin tavern near Knoxville. This cabin was restored and is located in Morristown. Davy attended school for only four days, and after a fight with a boy, he ran away to escape a punishment. He worked driving cattle and returned home 2 and half years later.  Davy was married twice and had 2 sons. He was a commander in the Creek Indian War. He was a member of the 21 and 23 congress of the United States. His motto was, “Be always sure you are right then go ahead.” His first gun is in Jefferson County and has been since 1806, his rifle Betsy and tomahawk are in the Smithsonian Institute. On March, 18 Davy was killed at the Alamo. His limestone tombstone reads “Davy Crockett, Pioneer, patriot, soldier, trapper, explorer, state legislator, congressman, killed at the Alamo. 1786-1836.
