Creating a composition can be a piece of cake, if you have the right ingredients.  Follow this recipe and you will turn out a paper!

1.  Every cake starts with the right ingredients and so does a composition.  The ingredients for a cake might start with eggs, flour, or sugar.  A composition starts with the topic sentence.  Just as a cake's ingredients go together to determine what type of cake you will make, the topic sentence determines what the composition will turn out to be.

The topic sentence and the introductory paragraph tell who, what, when, where, or why.

2.  The body follows the introduction. It contains the event paragraphs which give facts, examples, reasons, and other information.  These are like the layers of the cake.

3.  The remaining event paragraphs add more layers to the composition just as there are several layers in the cake.  They tell more about the topic sentence.

4.  Now you are ready for the finishing touch, the icing on the cake!  The finishing touch on the composition is the conclusion.  The conclusion summarizes the connections between the information discussed in the body of the paragraph and the paragraph's topic sentence.

5.  What happens after the cake is frosted?   The same thing that happens after the composition has been completed.  It is enjoyed!
