Animal Adaptations

Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Sams Fourth Graders

In the adaptation presentation, I learned about a rabbit.  A rabbit can weight up to 10 pounds.  Rabbits can grow to be about 15 inches tall.  When baby rabbits are born, they look like blobs.  Rabbits are really neat.

In the adaptation presentation, I learned about a bear.  They weigh 175 pounds.  They feed on salmon.  They like rocky environments.  I love bears.

In the adaptation presentation, I learned about an iguana.  Most iguanas live in rain forests and in the southern part of one.  Baby iguanas usually blend in.  Iguanas are herbivores and only eat leaves and grass.  I think iguanas have a blending adaptation.

Do you know what rabbits are like? Some rabbits can weigh up to ten pounds.  Other rabbits can be at least 15 inches tall.  When rabbits are born they look like black blobs.  I feel that all rabbits are cute and fluffy.  I absolutely love rabbits!

Bears can adapt to many environments.  Bears can survive in dry and moist areas.  Bears are usually found in forests, mountains, and river valleys.  Bears can get larger if food is available.  Their diet is mostly made of nuts and berries, and if available fish, and small mammals.  Bears can survive a lot of different environments.

Rabbits are well adapted to different environments.  Rabbits around East Tennessee are usually brown.  That color helps them hide from wolves, snakes, and other meat eaters.  Snow shoe hares have a 27% thicker coat to keep them warm during the winter.  Some rabbits go through a seasonal change from brown in the summer to white in the winter.  If rabbits did not adapt to their surroundings they would not live.

Iguanas adapt very easily to the rain forest.  Iguanas live in rain forests of South America.  When iguanas are young they are light green.  When they get older they camouflage themselves by changing colors.

Rain forests have water and iguanas love to swim.  They are very good swimmers.  The way they swim is that they hold their legs close to their body and use their tail as a paddle.

I think that iguanas are very unique.

Rabbits can adapt to different environments very well.  Rabbits use woodchucks and skunk burrows for safety in case of bad weather.  They do not go very far inside the burrow because there might be another dangerous animal in the hole.

Rabbits also have the ability to keep themselves warm or cool.  The way they keep cool is they have hollow hairs.  This insulation keeps them cool and warm.  The snowshoe hare’s white winter pelage has 27% better insulation than in the summer.

Rabbits have extremely good hearing.  The reason why is because this gives them the ability to hear when they are in danger.  I think that rabbits are extremely intelligent animals.

The moon phases are the types of happenings of the moon.  The moon circles the Earth.  A full moon appears as a sphere, a half moon appears as a half of a sphere.  A crescent moon is partway between a half moon and a full moon.  I think the moon is shockingly exciting and extremely entertaining to study!

Do you know how volcanoes are formed? A volcano eruption is incredibly hot.  I could toast a hotdog in one second.  A volcano is a lot of melted rock called magma! A volcano eruption is kind of like popping a zit.  I think volcanoes are awesome because they are extremely hot.
