Activity:  Have the students form teams of three. Assign each team a particular search engine in order to find a web page with information for each item listed below. Afterwards, have them describe the search strategies they used to find each item.

Each group should use one of the following web search engines:

• Google
• Yahoo
• Excite
• DogPile

Here's the list of items to find:

1. An adult literacy organization in Australia
2. A map of the Dominican Republic
3. A self-portrait of Frida Kahlo
4. Langston Hughes' poem, Dream Deferred, and Hughes' birthplace and birthdate
5. The weather today in Honolulu, Hawaii and Anchorage, Alaska
6. A search engine that will give you a map with driving directions starting at Times Square, New York City and arriving at Disney World in Orlando Florida
   
   Follow-up Activity
   Students can come up with their own "treasures" for their classmates to find on the web. (Make sure the students can find the information themselves, first.)
