What is Web 2.0?

New Applications for Students

Web 2.0 is a trendy way to indicate an improved form of the World Wide Web.  Many recently developed concepts and technologies are seen as contributing to Web 2.0, including weblogs, linklogs, wikis, podcasts, online web services, and others. The Web 2.0 concept differs from early web development, retroactively labeled Web 1.0, in that it is a move away from static websites to a more dynamic and interactive World Wide Web.  Web 2.0 offers online applications that perform the tasks of software.

Some of the more well known Web 2.0 entities are Google Maps. Google Maps is the conventional name of a free, web map server application and
technology provided by Google at http://maps.google.com and as part of Google Local. Flickr http://flickr.com is a digital photo sharing website and web services suite. Digg http://digg.com is a website with an  emphasis on technology news. It combines  social bookmarking, blogging, and syndication with a form of non-hierarchical, democratic editorial control.
