Downloading PowerPoint Presentations Through Internet Explorer
PowerPoint Collection

PowerPoint presentations are available on the web in 4 forms:

1.  Web Presentations    These presentations are already online for viewing.  A web presentation cannot be saved to a computer.  The presentations can be viewed as a webpage with frames, or in Internet Explorer, viewed as a PowerPoint presentation.

To view as a presentation, use the PowerPoint viewer found in the lower right-corner of the screen.

2.  Zipped Presentations  These presentations are zipped or compressed to save time in downloading.

They can be saved to the computer and opened (or unzipped) with a free program called, WinZip.  To learn how to unzip these presentations, click HERE.

3.  PowerPoint file (.ppt)  These presentations are saved as any other PowerPoint would be saved.  They can be saved to the computer or they can be opened online.
Warning:  Opening a presentation online could result in slow response, or the computer freezing, depending on the size of the presentation, the amount or computer RAM, and the Internet speed.  It is recommended to always save the presentation to the computer before opening.

Saving and Opening a .ppt or .pps file

1.  Click the file name of the desired presentation.

2.  A dialog box will appear.  Click SAVE.

3.  Choose where the file will be stored by clicking the dropdown arrow and the desired drive and/or folder.  Some files can be saved on a disk, but most are too large.  It may be best to choose DESKTOP, so the presentation can be quickly located after the download.  Be sure to notice the file name.

4.  The file will download.  The dialog box will disappear if "Close this box when download completes" is checked.

5.  Close Internet Explorer and locate the downloaded file on the desktop.  Double click the file name to open the presentation.  PowerPoint will open.  To run the show, press the F5 key on the keyboard.

4.  Presentation file (.pps)  These presentations work the same as the .ppt file except that they open immediately in the show mode.  To download, use the steps above.  If you wish to edit these files, right click the file name and change the .pps to .ppt.  Ignore the warning screen indicating the file can become unstable.

Steps to download and open presentations in Netscape are also available.
