Creating Web Presentations With PowerPoint 2000

PowerPoint 2000 enables you to create well-organized frames on the web.  Remember to create a back link on the last slide of the presentation.

Construct the PowerPoint Presentation

® Create the presentation using the outline form.  The text that appears in the titles will become the title of each frame on your web page.  Bulleted text will appear when the outline is expanded on the web.

URL Hyperlinks

Add URL hyperlinks to the presentation by using the Insert Hyperlink tool on the Standard Toolbar.  When viewed on the web these will link the viewer to the desired site.

Email Hyperlinks

® Hyperlink to an email address using the Insert Hyperlink tool on the

Standard Toolbar.

The command line should begin with mailto:  Followed by the email address.

Slide Hyperlinks

® Create interactive presentations using slide hyperlinks with the SlideShow, Action Setting feature.  Interactive presentation allows the viewer to respond to questions or select the slide to be visited next.

Saving Your Presentation as A Web Page

® Click File, Save as Web Page.  Choose the folder and the title of the web page.

Select existing folder or create a new one.

Organization of Files

PowerPoint will place all files associated with the web presentation in a folder that ends with _files.  The first page will end with .htm and will be outside that folder.

FTP the Presentation to the Web

®   To upload the presentation a folder must be created on your web server space with the same name as the folder in which you saved your files.  Inside that folder you must created yet another folder with the same name as the folder PowerPoint created ending with _files.  Open the first folder to upload the main presentation file.  This file will end with .htm.  Then open the folder that ends with _files and upload all files from your hard drive from the same folder.

Viewing the Presentation

® When viewing the presentation on the web all hyperlink slides, text, and Action Buttons will work the same as they do in the actual presentation.  Using Internet Explorer, the frame will be correctly sized and you can view the outline or see it as a slide show.
