What is  County-Wide Professional Development? 

Definitions:

An In-Service Day is defined as a program of planned activities by the building administrators designed to increase the competencies needed by all licensed personnel in the performance of their professional responsibilities.  One day of in-service must equal a 6-hour day.

An Administrative Day is a day for teachers to work in their classrooms.  One administrative day must equal a 6-hour day.

A county-wide Professional Development day is defined as a program of planned activities by the district administrators designed to increase the competencies needed by all licensed personnel in the performance of their professional responsibilities.  A professional development day must equal a 6-hour day.

 

Pre-School Sessions:  Teacher Induction Program

August 3, 8:30-11:30, Grades K-5

  • Balanced Literacy Introduction

August 3, 12:30-3:30, Grades 6-12

  • Four Square Writing

August 6, 12:30-3:30 (unless otherwise noted)
Location: Jefferson County High School (JCHS)

  • Grades K-5 Special Education Teachers-Science & Math: New Standards Roll Out, Sherry Finchum, Mandy Schneitman, & Jan Coley at Health Department (tentative)

  • K-2 Teachers, Literacy Assessment/RTI Training, Susan Roberts & Literacy Coaches, location: Ted Russell Hall at Carson Newman College: Room 105.  The new building is located directly behind Swan Hall Dormitory and the Music Building. Parking should not be a problem as CNC classes have not yet begun.

  • All other teachers work in home schools

August 6, 2:00-3:30

  • Math Train-the-Trainers, Location: Jefferson Middle School in Angie Franklin's computer lab.
