THE YEARS . . . Piedmont
Elementary began as a small community school with one classroom per grade
level. The land for the school was given in 1915 by John Curry and J.W.
Meadows on which a "modern" building was erected. At this time,
Wesley's Chapel, Newman School, and Piedmont were consolidated into one
school, named Piedmont. This building later burned.
Though the original school building burned, we moved to our present location in 1951. At this time, a larger building was built on land purchased by donations of parents interested in keeping the school in the Piedmont Community. Over the years, our small school has seen many changes. In 1977, a cafeteria was added to the building. In 1995, renovations added a primary area, a media center, and a larger office space. Other renovations included heating/cooling systems, wiring for technology advances, and a teacher workroom. In 2000, construction was completed adding 15 new classrooms as well as several specialty rooms. Renovations were also made enlarging the office and conference areas. The computer lab was moved out of the library and an art room was created. The new up-to-date cafeteria opened in Spring, 2000. The Piedmont community and school have experienced tremendous population growth. We are one of the fastest growing areas of both our county and the state. Our classrooms and building have continued to grow in order to accommodate our new students. Nonetheless, we remain a school which strives for academic excellence. AT THE PRESENT . . . Currently our school consists of approximately 425 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. We house twenty-two regular classrooms and various special area classes. We look forward to continuing to serve our community with the same high standards that have governed our school through the years. Our Pre-K class continues to get little ones ready for "school!" |
