Curriculum
CORE
CURRICULUM CLASSES
The core
curriculum classes consist of language arts, math, and
science. These areas are tested each year by the State
Department of Education and are reported on the school’s
Report Card. There are five levels to each core curriculum
area: LRE, Standard A, Standard B, Intermediate, and
Advanced. Student placement is based on standardized test
scores, grades from the previous year, and teacher
recommendations.
Language Arts: 2 Periods
Each student at JMS is scheduled for a two
period block of language arts. This class will include all
aspects of Language Arts: reading, writing, and grammar.
Math:
1 Period
Each student is scheduled for one period of math
instruction. Students in the eighth grade that participate
in an advanced class will receive pre-algebra instruction.
Science: 1 Period

Science classes provide hands-on science opportunities for
all grade levels.

Students
are placed randomly into all additional classes based on the
remaining periods that are available in their schedule.

Each
student is scheduled for an elective period. Three electives,
Band and Chorus, Computer Lab meet all year long. The following
electives meet for nine weeks. Students scheduled for one
of the following will rotate through all four classes within

3. Academic Enrichment Program
Social
studies teachers teach the academic enrichment program.
Each teacher will cover a different aspect of social studies
