Preserving the Environment
  for Future Generations

Students realize that "endangered" means there is still time to preserve the species.   Students are concerned about being able to do their part to become "good stewards" of the land and maintaing an a diverse world for future generations.  This unit is designed to to increase student understanding of how species interact with their habitats and how human activity may affect the survival of species.

    High school but may be modified for any grade level.

1 to 2 weeks

Overview
    This is a multi-disciplinary unit designed to give student the opportunity to practice research skills using the Internet, oral and written communication skills and to develop a greater understanding of the environment.  Students will become aware of man's interaction with nature.  Endangered species will be identified as well as the reason for endangerment and what is being done to aid the species.  Students will use the Internet to locate and research an endangered species.  A written report including a bibliography and outline will accompany an oral presentation.  The presentation will include the use a visual componet, such as a PowerPoint presentation, and other multimedia aids.  Student presentations will be video taped to allow for self evaluation.
