A Computer Learning Center encourages students to familiarize themselves
with the computer and practice a variety of skills on their own.
If the computer is the only learning center, try to schedule students in
25-minute blocks throughout the week. If that isn’t possible schedule
20-minute blocks or have students work in pairs. Parent volunteers
or older students make great helpers and can also assist in moving students
through the center in a timely manner. When scheduling
activities remember that students will need to be able to complete them
in 15 to 20 minutes in order to give students time to keep the learning
center on the rotation schedule. If the assignment cannot be completed
within the scheduled time, break it into smaller parts. Have a place
prepared for student to put their completed work.
Set up a weekly activity card at the computer to keep students on task.
At the end of each activity card there should be a step directing the students
exactly how to save, put materials away, and to quit or exit the program.
This way the computer will be ready for the next student.
