Schedule & Syllabus – New Teacher Induction Program 2007-2008

Every session will have: 

n     District Policy Review

n     Open Discussion  

You will need to bring the New Teacher Induction notebook and The First Days of School to every meeting.  These will be given to you on August 1st.

Mark your calendar!  The following new teacher induction meetings are required of all teachers new to our system.  The meetings will be held after school, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.  Please be prompt.  Keep a log of the hours you accumulate as they will serve as self-selected in-service credit and SACS accreditation hours. 

·         July 31  –  Balanced Literacy

o       MENTOR WORKSHOP:  8:00-12:00 at Jefferson County High School

o       8:30-11:30  Balanced Literacy Overview for PreK-5, Jefferson County High School

o       12:30-3:30 New 6-12 JCHS Teachers, Four Square Writing, Jefferson County High School

·         August 1 – Learning the Ropes Orientation, 8:30-4:00 at Health Department (Please park at Rescue Squad building beside the Health Department.)

o       Welcome!

o       Business Office Intake 

o       New Teacher Induction Program Handbook

o       Email Training

To expedite the “Orientation Meeting,” please come prepared by doing the following things:

q    Bring personal identification documentation (Driver’s License &  Social Security Card {the real one})

q    Bring any completed forms from those that are enclosed with this mailing

q    Social Security Numbers and Dates-of-Birth for spouse and all dependents

q    Know the number of exemptions you want to declare (W-4 Form for Withholding Tax)

q    Know if you wish to take health insurance. (You may want to talk with your spouse before this meeting if insurance is available at his/her employment.) See enclosed Health Info Sheet.

q    Know the person who will be your beneficiary for any death benefit (need their SSN & DOB)

q    Bring a voided  check  for Direct Deposit information

§        September 18 Tennessee Teacher Evaluation Model at Jefferson County High School

§        October 23 – Literacy (Strategies for PreK-5) at Piedmont Elementary School, Susan Roberts, Reading Specialist, Guided Reading

§       November 13 – Classroom Management at Jefferson Middle School  NOTE:  JCHS teachers will meet at the high school.

§        January 22 – Diversity & Differentiated Instruction at Maury Middle School

§      February 19 Standardized Testing Issues at New Market Elementary School

§        March 25 – The Professional Educator at Jefferson Elementary at Jefferson Elementary School

§        April 29 – Evaluate & Celebrate at Carson-Newman College
