Please answer the following questions in as much detail as possible.

You may use attachments.

1.Using specifics, compare your timeline and benchmarks in the grant to what is actually occurring in your project.

This year is going well. The students are on track with the goals that have been set for them. The timeline indicates that the following things be accomplished during the months of October-December:

1.)The Lindamood Auditory Conceptualization (LAC) evaluation be given,

2.) Students address new computer programs which in turn address individual areas of need

3.) Use a video egg camera to visit other professions

4.) Begin developing Power Point Presentations

We have met these guidelines except, for using the video egg to conference with other professions.

We received theLindamood Auditory Conceptualization (LAC) kit in the middle of October. To begin this program, our Speech and Language Pathologist, Vera Reneau tested each child, in order to get a basal to begin with. She also helped familiarize me with the program by viewing a video with me.I use the kit each day to introduce new sounds and labels.Mrs. Reneau and her teaching assistant, come into my class twice a week, for thirty minutes each time.During this time, we work on skills that have been introduced. We divide the students into small groups in order to give each child more individualized help with this program. The children seem to like the program. It involves the visual, auditory, and language part of the brain.

*Attachment one is the results of these tests used for the LAC program.

The students have viewed Power Point Presentations throughout the whole year.During the first two weeks of December, I introduced how to begin a Power Point Presentation.I then sent them to a computer. We walked through how to make a slide by putting a word and picture in the slide.During the month of January, I will team students to make power point presentations.

We also discussed the possibility of an Internet project to do.We have participated in one Social Studies project with a fourth grade from Texas. They were trying to see how many cities they could get a response from within a set number of days.We wrote to them however, we never had a response from them.We have established correspondence by e-mail with few of my friends throughout the United States and in Holland. They enjoy the letters from, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Fort Worth, Texas as well as Eienhoven, Holland. We have had some great questions to and from these places.

I have introduced several programs to the students. One of their favorite programs is called Story Weaver. We use this program once a week to design a picture and then write three or more sentences about that picture.I am encouraged by the sentences that they are writing. This program is helping to improve written language skills. We use Microsoft Word each Monday morning to type spelling words for the week. They print out the words and use them for study guides at their desk for the rest of the week.

We are also using programs like Leap into Phonics which gives them a daily report of what skill they have mastered and what skill they need to continue working on.We have been using a program called Kid Phonics, which also tracks what skills they are mastering, and what skills need to be mastered.

We were supposed to videoconference with another class in another school during the month of November.Because I did not have access to a camera egg, I did not meet this part of the timeline.I have acquired a camera now and have talked with a friend in another school who will be conferencing with us during the month of January.I also plan on having a conference with our Technology Coordinator at the Technology center. The students will journal in Microsoft word about both experiences.

2.What progress have you made toward reaching the objectives and goals that you set in your proposal?

This project was created to provide an opportunity for students to become skillful readers. The students are progressing.A goal of 50 books read and test passed have been set for them in Accelerated reading which would mean between 20-25 points. The purpose of this program is to build comprehension and oral and silent reading skills.A goal is set for the student. The student chooses a book within their reading level and reads the book. The student then takes a test on the book.Points are acquired by passing the test. The program helps to build reading levels.

*Attachment 2 and 3 are results of the Accelerated Reading Program.

As illustrated by the attachments all students are building their reading level as well as improving comprehension skills.I am very pleased with this part of the project.Mrs. Kathy Hopkins (my teaching assistant), is the main reason this part of the project is so successful. She tutors each child each day and tests each child on the book that they have read together or the student has read independently to her.The confidence of the children has grown.I would also give credit to the wonderful parent support that I have with this group of students. The parent participation is very good. Each parent reads with his or her child three to four night a week. The student turns in a reading log each day.The logs are signed to let me know if the parent read to, read with or let the child read independently to them. The child is then tested when they come in on the book read the night before. The success rates on these tests are good.

The parent support has also been wonderful in our monthly meetings. We had one month that I only had five parents attended, however, each parent that did not come did have a good reason for not being there.I sent an Agenda to them as well as any handouts from the meeting. The October meeting had 11 out of 12 parents attending, November meeting had 5 out of 12 parents attending and December meeting had 10 out of 12 parents attending. Each parent seems very pleased with the project and the progress that their child is making.

The following goals have been met:

1.)Lindamood Conceptualization Evaluations completed

2.)Computer programs introduced and used in an effective way

3.)Power Point Presentations introduced and use of the program established

4.)Parent Meetings established and successful

5.)Parent Support of Reading Logs successful

6.)Accelerated Reading Program in use and progressing in successful way

7.)Contact for possible video conference made

8.)E-mail contacts made throughout the United States and Europe

3.What progress has been made toward the National Goal or Goals as you presented in your proposal?

The National goal this project addresses is: Improve student achievement through the use of technology as a tool to enhance the reading curriculum.

This goal isbeing met daily in our class. Each child uses the computer each day to master reading skills, written language skills, auditory processing skills and listening skills. The student is getting all the information that they need by hearing, seeing and touching the keyboard.

The Benchmark stated that currently 14% of classrooms use computers to enhance reading instruction.

Presently all the students in my class are using computers to enhance reading instruction. There are three other teachers that use my class each week to help enhance reading instruction with their students also. They come into my class during my planning time.My students set up a reading program on the computer for them before they leave for their special area. This gives them a sense of ownership as well a spirit of sharing.

I have also taught my students how to turn on the computers in the morning and shut them down in the afternoon before they leave.

4.At this point, how is the Goals 2000 funding positively affecting the education of the children in your county?

The use of technology is helping to make the students of Dandridge Elementary better students. This class is being used not only by my class but by other classes in the school as well. The attitude of the students in this class is wonderful.Discipline is not a problem in any way. These students work hard all day long and when they get a break they still want to stay in class to work on the computers. We do take recess each day.The parents are so pleased with this program that there have been many complements from them about how wonderful that they think this project is.I had an M-team with one of my student's mother the other day and she stated in the meeting that this is the first year of her son's life that she has not had to yell at him to get out of bed to come to school. He loves school this year and up until this year,he was in time out, or sent to the principal’s office often because of disruptions in the class. He is so enthused by school that unacceptable behavior is not an issue with him in my class. She is very pleased with his progress and so am I.

5.Describe some great happenings concerning your project. Please send any articles or documentation to us for our files

I feel that each day in my class something new is happening.Students are learning and the lights are coming on.One parent, with tears in her eyes, stated to me "I don't know what has happened, it just snapped with him the other night and he is reading everything he can get his hands on."One of my students came to me with his grade card last six weeks and he also had tears in his eyes and said " I have never made all A's and B's before, I bet my dad will take me to McDonald's".I know that it is not all about grades, but to see the self-esteem grow in this little boy has been so great.I know that this year is and has made such a difference in 12 student's lives.I can see it happening everyday.I can see them smile when they succeed and bite their lip and try harder when they don't quite get it.This is an experience that I am so thankful for.I am learning as much each day as they are.
