Week of Wellness
Grade Level: 3rd-12th
Overview: Students will research and collect medical-career-related
resources for display and discussion during a Health Resources Week that
they help to organize.
Objectives
In this lesson, students will:
· Locate and collect data on one aspect of the health care field
· Prepare a report, PowerPoint presentation, or visual display
· Secure a guest speaker from the health profession
Time Frame
Four 1-hour sessions over the course of one week
Materials
1. Computer and Internet connection
2. Addresses of health organizations
3. Health brochures
4. Related books & printed materials
Procedure
1. Reinforce for students the importance of taking personal responsibnlity
for becoming aware of health issues.
2. Assist students in finding out about medical resources
that are available to the public.
3. Divide students into teams of 6 members. Each team must
identify one aspect of the health care field and prepare a report, presentation,
or visual display on that topic.
Team Roles:
Examiner-will uncover the resources using the Internet and print
materials. Two students will serve in this role.
Recorder-will record information. Two students will serve in
this role.
Presenter-will determine and develop presentation mode.
Two students will serve in this role.

Presentations take place during the Week of Wellness in which selected
professional from the health care address the class.
