Overview Using dictionaries, the two classes will compete to find the correct word for the definition given by one class to the other.

Time Frame  30 minute lesson
 

Objectives
In this lesson, students will:

Students will be proficient in using a dictionary.

Demonstrate keyboarding skills.

Interact with another classroom using technology.

ICQ Communication (free download)  

• Other Technology Used in this Lesson

Using a predetermined list of vocabulary words, each class will keyboard a definition of a vocabulary word to the connected class using ICQ.  The class will locate the vocabulary word through the definition given by the other classroom teacher.  Each class will be notified through ICQ if their response is correct.

Extension of the lesson

• Expand to other subject areas
• Use for multiple meaning of words…the underlined word in a sentence will be looked up in the dictionary.  The other classroom will keyboard, using ICQ, the correct meaning of the word used in the sentence.

• Develop a reading vocabulary utilizing sight words, phonetic and structural analysis, and context.
