Procedure
-
ABC Rock (Whole Group): Students will sing the song
"ABC Rock"(on Steve & Greg record).
-
Fishing Game (Whole Group): Students will use magnet
fishing pole to catch fish with letters of the alphabet(Make fish with
die-cut machine. Put paper clips on the fish to attract the magnet). Students
will name the consonant on their fish. Teacher will make the sound for
each letter.
-
Letter Puppets (Whole Group/Small Group): Students will
make a letter puppet. Each student will have a different letter of the
alphabet (each consonant should be represented). Students will introduce
their puppet to the class and make the sound of their letter puppet.
-
MS Word (Teams): Divide class into two groups. Use MS
Word and TV to show students consonants. Have team call out name of letter.
Give team one point for correct answer. Let team earn bonus point
for naming word which begins with the shown consonant. For example, T is
for turtle.
-
Letter Game (Small Group): Divide students into groups.
Give each group a box of letter cards. Have students take turns drawing
a card. Students name each letter drawn and make the sound for the letter.
Students may keep cards that match their letter puppet.
-
Letter Pictures (Small Group): Give groups a large
piece of paper, ask students in each group to work together. Groups will
draw 2 pictures for each letter represented in their group(students should
have their letter puppets with them to remind them of their letter assignment).
For instance, if students in a group have letter puppets for consonants
R, B, P, and H, they might draw a rabbit, road, boy, belt, pot, porcupine,
horse, and house on their paper.
-
EVALUATION: Give "Cathy Consonant" worksheet. She is
a long spotted worm. Give instructions to color letters on her spots. For
