Jefferson County Schools

Project REACH was developed by Jeannette Mulholland, Reading Specialist, Annette Loy, JCHS Art Teacher, Connie Campbell, Instructional Technology Specialist, and Ann Marie Potts, Jefferson County School Board.

THE PROJECTS MUST PROVIDE:

  • Adult Service/Parent Involvement – Participants in Early Learning Center must attend 7 out of 10 parenting classes. A parent Open House will be held at each Camp site.
  • Professional Development for staff will be provided through district’s literacy professional development sessions. Pre-school instructor will attend 4 quarterly training sessions in Nashville and one national training session in Nashville.
  • A nutritious snack will be provided for children at the Early Learning Center and Camps Read Along.
  • Transportation Plan - Jefferson County school bus will be hired at a cost of $1400 per month to transport children. Rent or vehicle lease are allowable expenditures.

Principles of Effectiveness will include needs assessment, performance measures for academic achievement, and practices based on scientific research.  Achievement Measures will include: formal and informal assessments, grades, teacher reports, Behavior Survey, attendance, performance, and a decrease in disciplinary actions. Evaluation reported to state by June 15, 2005.

The grant must provide for $2,000 for federally-mandated 21st CCLC evaluation for each site, for each year.

Collaborating parties include Family Resource Center, Oakland Learning Adult Education, TN Arts Commission, East TN Foundation, and the Mossy Creek Literacy Council.
