Retirement for full-time employees is through the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System. Participants are eligible for service retirement once they meet 30 years of service under TCRS or reach age 60 and are vested.
TCRS has a Benefits Calculator that allows participants to input data to obtain an unofficial estimate of TCRS benefits.
Employees considering retirement should contact TCRS at 1-800-770-8277 or 615-741-1971, for benefit estimates and questions about eligiblity. Employees should contact Christy Wolfe in Finance for forms and local deadlines. Keep in mind, it generally takes up to 3 months for TCRS to process your retirement application.
Retiring teachers may be eligible for a local Service Incentive Program. Teachers are eligible to retire under this program when in the school year they have earned 21 years of verified teaching experience and have a minimum of ten (10) years employment in the Jefferson County School System. Teachers must complete the semester of the school year in which they reach their eligibility. The deadline for this program is December 31st of the school year in which the teacher intends to retire.
SICK LEAVE EXIT OPTION
Teachers who leave the School System in good standing, may be eligible for the Sick Leave Exit Option. The Board shall offer an incentive of $25 per day of accumulated sick leave (earned in Jefferson County only) if application is received by March 1st of the school year in which he/she intends to retire/resign. The incentive becomes an option only after ten (10) consecutive years of service in the Jefferson County School System.
